Potentilla thurberi ‘Monarch’s Velvet’, commonly known as Scarlet Cinquefoil, bears velvety, deep crimson, saucer-shaped flowers with dark centres. The flowers lighten to scarlet-red as summer progresses, above bright green, strawberry-like, palmate leaves.
This clump-forming perennial grows in good, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Try combining it with orange and yellow flowers for a hot-coloured planting. Cut back once flowering is over and divide large clumps in spring.
