Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Penstemon ‘Schoenholzeri’, also known as ‘Firebird’, bears racemes of crimson-red tubular flowers throughout summer. This clump-forming, semi-evergreen perennial has narrow, lance-shaped green leaves.
It grows well in sun or partial shade in fertile, free-draining soil.
Hardiness: H4 (−10°C to −5°C). Hardy through most UK winters. Provide winter protection in colder inland, upland or northern gardens; plants in pots are more vulnerable to frost.

Care Guide:
Deadhead regularly to encourage further flowering. Leave the top growth in place over winter to help protect the crown, then cut back hard in spring after the last frosts. Take soft-tip cuttings in early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer as insurance against winter losses.
